On May 29, 2019, the National Library of Uzbekistan hosted a creative meeting with the chairman of the German-Uzbek Scientific Society in Germany, the chairman of the Association of Teachers of the German Language of Uzbekistan, Professor Khurram Rakhimov, and also opened an exhibition of works by representatives of German and Uzbek literature translated into Uzbek and German. The meeting was organized in cooperation with the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan in order to implement paragraph 63 of the Roadmap on holding events at the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi on May 25-30 of this year, an exhibition of books of great thinkers of Uzbekistan and Germany translated into Uzbek and German, aimed at improving the culture of reading among the population.
The event was attended by poets and writers, translators and philologists, students and teachers of the Uzbek State University of World Languages, the National University of Uzbekistan, students and teachers of the Goethe specialized school No. 60.
The speakers at the event spoke about the attention paid to the translation industry in Uzbekistan, about the Uzbek-German literary connections, about the scientific, peralogical and translation activities of Hurram Rakhimov.
The chief editor of the journal “Jahon Adabiyoti”, academician of the Chingiz Aitmatov Academy Akhmadjon Meliboev noted his scientific work. “Khurram Rakhimov is the author of more than 160 scientific, popular science, educational and methodical articles, educational literature and translations. He considers it necessary to train specialists in intercultural education. In this regard, he took the initiative to introduce the subject of Intercultural Relationships into the curriculum. On his initiative, in 2001, the Department of German Language Teaching Methodology was established at the Faculty of German Philology of the Nizami State Pedagogical University. Having defended his thesis on the topic “Linguistic-stylistic characteristics of literary-publicistic translation,” the scientist devoted all his scientific research to the problems of reconstruction in the translation of the original.
The chief specialist of the Agency for Information and Mass Communications under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Muhiddin Omon, told the participants of the event about the translation activities of Hurram Rakhimov. “Having tried his hand at translating dialogues, humorous stories, H. Rakhimov began to translate works of a large genre. As a result, in 1990, the Chulpon Publishing House with a print run of 50,000 copies published the book Etti Okkush (Seven Swans), which included more than 80 fairy tales, translated together with the poet Sh.Salimova. This is the first collection of German fairy tales translated into Uzbek. And in 2001 a book was published with 40 fairy tales by the Grimm brothers. Gaining translation experience H.Rakhimov publishes the following collection of fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm, which already includes more than 100 fairy tales.
